November at a Glance
Since this is obviously a backlog (It's actually the wee hours in the morning of the last day of January 2007), I had to search into the deepest parts of my memory to remember what happened in November. That month seemed to have passed by so quickly! I ended up having to actually look in my agenda to see what I actually did! Well, here it is in brief....
*****
November 1st, I got internet connection at my new place!
*****
I worked, worked, worked! After moseying around in Europe and Toronto, I came back to a motherload that needed my attention.
*****
Still in the process of settling into my new place! That is, still sleeping on a mattress on the floor and staring at ugly white blinds with no curtains. The doorman came to clean my windows on the weekend and he made fun of my white mini-lights after knocking them off the ceiling.
*****
Visiting Grandma in the hospital at regular intervals. The poor woman was more bored than anything, due to the fact that she was often the liveliest and healthiest one in the ward!
*****
Ooohh! I went to Québec city for one night and two days to present a poster at the Québec Diabetes Association conference. This is my third time to the same venue for the same conference, so excitement was sadly wearing a bit thin. But I met a nice gal who I will be working with in the near future as she is joining our lab. The funnest part, of course, was accepting the final payment of my scholarship. They have a little ceremony for us, with wine and cheese and all, then call up the "boursiers" one by one like we are at graduation day.
*****
One Tuesday evening in late November, me and Rachel from my improv course went to check out a jam session at Nyks to see the Alex Bellegarde (locally known jazz upright bass player) and his gang, to inspire us for our upcoming concert. Our own bass
player from the course had recommended it since Alex is his own personal inspiration. Their first set though, was so completely out-of-this-world improv that Rachel and I just could not grasp what the heck was going on! Later in the night I asked Alex what kind of structure they followed for that set, and he said absolutely none! Fascinating! (By the way, it turns out I'm performing with Alex from time to time... go see the January blogs when they come up!) I took a quick video of the amazing show on my cell but I feel bad putting it up on the web until I ask permission to do so.
*****
Speaking of, the other thing I did in November was sing, sing, sing! And damn loving it!
So there it is. November at a glance.
